- KRAKONG | ST Modular
KRAKONG is a duophonic generative synthesizer with a sequencer per voice, FM crossover modulation, an additional random modulation sequencer, one multimode filter with VCA, a buffered multiple and a resettable LFO. The design includes a collection of manual controls and connections for patching and CV control. "Krakong fits seamlessly into a series of well-known generative semi-modular synthesizers. It invites you to lose yourself in hours of sound design and keeps surprising you with new sounds and sequences." MAIN FEATURES KRAKONG is a duophonic generative synthesizer with a sequencer per voice, FM crossover modulation, an additional random modulation sequencer, one multimode filter with VCA, a buffered multiple and a resettable LFO. The design includes a collection of manual controls and connections for patching and CV control. It fits into a standard Eurorack case with at least 80 HP (3U). Each of the unit's two voices consists of a triangle and a square wave oscillator, a shift register sequencer, a decay envelope generator and a filter-based gate. In addition to the two synthesizer voices, which can be manually distributed in the stereo field, a third ring-modulated output of the two voices can be mixed to the main output. The tempo of all sequencers is determined by a clock generator, which can be controlled internally or synchronised externally to any voltage (audio and CV). This musical instrument has a complete structure that allows for a wide range of sonic possibilities, from rhythmic drum patterns and tamed sonic chaos to textural and rough synth-sounds. The essence of this unit lies in the exploration of the interplay between the elements of the synthesiser, using the three sequencers and filters, manual controls and modulation patch points. It can be powered by a standard Eurorack PSU or a small ST Modular PSU PCB that can be built separately. INPUTS, OUTPUTS & FEATURES 2 Oscillators 1 Ring-modulated Output of the two Oscillators 1 CV OSC FM Cross-Modulation 2 CV Filter-based Gates 2 CV Decay Envelope Generators 1 CV Multi-mode Filter with two External Inputs and VCA 1 Noise Output 2 Shift Register Sequencers 1 Random Modulation Sequencer 1 CV Clock Generator 1 Resettable LFO 1 Buffered Multiple with Inverted Output 1 Mixer with stereo distribution (panning) OSC I and OSC II PULSE – Output of the PULSE waveform TRIANGLE – Output of the TRIANGLE waveform RNDM – Amount of random modulation of the RNDM SEQ applied to the oscillator´s frequency. FREQ – Manual control of the oscillators´s frequency. FREQ CV Input – CV frequency input with attenuator. The oscillators don´t track exactly 1V/Oct. The MOD´s square wave output is normalized to the OSC I CV input. The MOD´s triangle wave output is normalized to the OSC II CV input. NOISE OUT – Output of the internal NOISE GENERATOR GATE (OSC I & OSC II) IN – Audio input. The oscillator´s TRIANGLE output is normalized to this input. RNDM - Amount of random modulation of the RNDM SEQ applied to filter. This knob also acts as a attenuator for the GATE CV input. CV – CV input for the GATE cutoff. The RNDM SEQ CV output is normalized to this input. OFFSET – GATE cutoff offset FORCE – Amount of DECAY CV applied to the GATE Resonance of the OSC gates can be adjusted via a trimmer on the PCB DECAY (OSC I & OSC II) TRIG – CV input for triggering the DECAY envelope. The SERIAL SEQ TRIG output is normalized to this input. DEC OUT – DECAY output (OSC I Decay output can be set to inverted via jumper on the PCB) CV – CV DECAY input with attenuator. The RNDM SEQ CV output is normalized to this input. DECAY – Manual control of the DECAY length SERIAL SEQ (OSC I & OSC II) CLK IN – Sequencer clock input. The CLOCK GENERATOR´s output is normalized to this input. CLK DIV – The normalized CLOCK GENERATOR input can be divided by 2 or 8 (selectable via jumper on PCB). CV IN – Changes the locked note per clock according to an incoming CV signal. This signal is mixed with an internal noise source that generally generates random notes for the sequencer. GATE OUTPUT – Random or looped GATES CV OUT – Random or looped PITCH CV generated from a noise and CV input source. SCALE – Range of the pitch of CV OUT LENGTH – Select the length of a SEQUENCE. You can choose 4, 5, 6 or 7 (selectable via jumper on the PCB) or 8 steps. Please note that a change of the sequence length might also change the notes that are locked per clock signal, even in LOOP mode. LENGTH CV – CV control for selecting the sequence length RNDM/LOOP – Button to LOOP a sequence. If it is not looped it will generate random notes and gates. ADD – When pressed simultaneously with a CLOCK signal, it adds a random note and gate to the sequence. DEL – When pressed simultaneously with a CLOCK signal, it deletes a note and gate from the sequence. MOD (Resettable LFO) MOD KNOB – Manual control of the LFO RATE MOD RATE – Changes the RANGE of the LFO RATE from fast to slow. RST IN – Resets the LFO cycle on an incoming trigger signal. RNDM SEQ (Random Modulation Sequencer) CHANGE – Turn this knob to create new random sequences or loop them STEP/∞/OSC SWITCH – Controls if the CHANGE button is influenced either via the STEP IN input or the OSC I PULSE waveform. In mid-position no additional changes are applied to the CHANGE button. STEP IN – CV input to control the CHANGE knob (if SWITCH is set to STEP) in order to created steps of looped and random sequences. CLK IN – CLOCK input for the RNDM SEQ. The CLOCK GENERATOR´s output is normalized to this input. RNDM OUT – Output of the RANDOM MODULATION SEQUENCER CLOCK (Internal Clock Generator) CLOCK – Manual control of the CLOCK rate CLOCK CV – CV input with attenuator to control the clock rate. The RNDM SEQ CV output is normalized to this input. EXT CLK – External Clock input that overrides the internal clock. Any signal can be patched to this input (CV or audio). THRESHOLD – Sets a voltage threshold at which a clock pulse is generated. With a low threshold, clock pulses are already generated for very low voltages and conversely with a high threshold, clock pulses are only generated at peak voltages. In this way, you can use an audio drum loop, for example, to generate a clock signal and control the amount of clocks generated. MLTMD FILTER (Multi-Mode Filter) CUTOFF – Manual control of the filter´s CUTOFF frequency RNDM - Amount of random modulation of the RNDM SEQ applied to filter. OVERLOAD IN – External input with attenuator. If you turn the attenuator past 12 o'clock, the incoming signal is starting to clip softly. FILTER IN - External input with attenuator. FM IN – Frequency Modulation input with attenuverter (bipolar). The internal LFO Triangle waveform is normalized to this input. RESONANCE – Feedback of the filter output to the input. This goes as far as self-oscillation. RESONANCE CV – CV input for RESONANCE control SLOPE – This button changes the LOWPASS and BANDPASS FILTER SLOPE from 2-pole (12db) to 4-pole (24db). BANDPASS/LOWPASS/HIGHPASS – Filter output of the corresponding filter modes V/OCT – CV input with 1V/OCT tracking. This way you can play the filter with self-oscillating resonance as a third synthesizer voice. VCA CV - Voltage controlled amplifier input that only affects the LOWPASS output. T² – Pre-Filter ring-modulated output of OSC I and OSC II triangle waveforms OSC FM (Oscillator FM Cross-Modulation) FM AMT – Amount of frequency modulation applied to the target (OSC I, OSC II or both) FM CV – CV input to control the frequency modulation amount DIRECTION – Choose the direction of frequency modulation: OSC I modulating OSC II, OSC II modulating OSC I or both modulation each other. OUT (Mixer and OSC I & OSC II Panning) LEFT/RIGHT – Stereo Output VOL I+II – Volume control of the T² output before it is routed to the MULTIMODE FILTER. If you want to use the MLTMD FILTER only with another sound source, simply turn this volume down. VOL II – Volume control of OSC II VOL I – Volume control of OSC I MIXER IN – External mixer input. Audio is directly routed to OUT. VOL IN – External mixer input volume control SPREAD – Extends the panning for OSC I and OSC II in opposite directions and thus distributes the two outputs in the stereo field. The ring-modulated output of OSC I and OSC II remains in the centre position. This way you can also use the stereo outputs as individual OSC outputs. Modulation & Random wave / cv generator with four connected triangle lfos / 4 HP ⇣ This LFO, harnessing four interconnected LFOs, offers a powerful tool for dynamically altering CV destinations in rhythmic patterns. Its synchronized modulation brings intricate rhythmic control to your creative endeavors. 1/3 key features 4x LFO Out 4x LFO Rate Rate Switch Skiff friendly Wrong polarity protection Illuminated Wave -Logo specs & downloads width: 4 HP depth: 28 mm power: 34 mA @ +12V / 25 mA @ -12V documentation videos description / manual The rate of each LFO may be adjusted with the dedicated potentiometers. Each LFO signal is supplied on the four outputs on the bottom side of the module. Depending on the potentiometer settings also slopes or square- wave s can be generated. Please refer to the demo video below. The fours LFOs are connected to each other creating an LFO-chain. If the first LFO reaches its highest value, the second LFO starts to rise. And when the first output reaches its lowest voltage, the second channel starts to decrease and so on. Each potentiometer controls the time it takes for the LFO to reach its maximum voltage, which also controls the time it takes to reach 0 volts for its inverted counterpart (1&3 and 2&4). Simultaneously the pots control the time the other two LFOs hold their maximum voltage level. Patching all LFOs into a VCO´s sound shaping functions you can create wave -like sounding effects that will repeat periodically. This module is very good for generating very slow cycles when the RATE switch is set to SLOW. Conversely, it can also generate fast cycles when the switch is set to FAST. The state of each LFO is being indicated by the illuminated letters W A V E on top of the module. Each letter will light up when its dedicated LFO outputs a voltage. prev Up next
- Boba Fat
Oscillator boba fat / dual analog drum generator / 14 HP ⇣ At its core, Boba Fat features two oscillators that empower producers to easily craft both earth-shaking sub-basses and delicate, enveloping kicks. BOBA_BACK_NEW.jpg 1/3 key features Analog Drum Generator Designed for Kick- and Bassdrums Two Voices: Soft Mallet and Hard Mallet Each Mallet may be triggered independently Internal LFO with Sync Volume and Boost per Voice Groove CV Input „Vari“ for Hard Mallet Mod CV Input for Soft Mallet specs & downloads width: 14 HP depth: 28 mm power: 95 mA @ +12V / 65 mA @ -12V documentation videos description / manual BOBA FAT is a dual voice bass- and kick-drum generator. The first voice "soft mallet" generates smooth and warm sounding bass and sub-bass sounds, whereas the second voice "hard mallet" is rather considered to create kick or tom sounds. The eight potentiometers on the left control the soft mallet generator. PITCH controls the frequency, LEVEL the volume and BOOST adds low frequencies turning it clockwise and reduces them turning it counter-clockwise. MOD RATE and MOD ATT control an internal LFO and its attenuation. The LFO will affect the frequency of the soft mallet voice only. Additionally the LFO can by synced to the incoming gate or trigger. TRIG SLEW acts as some kind attack control and reduces transients making it very easy to create very smooth sub-bass drums. DECAY and RELEASE control the duration of the sounds being amplified by an internal VCA. PRESENCE changes the prominence of the sound. You can adjust the response by setting a jumper on the back of the module to either FAST or SLOW, optimizing the soft mallet circuitry for sharper, plucky tones or deeper, sustained bass sounds. The three potentiometers on the very right affect the hard mallet generator. PITCH, LEVEL and BOOST have the same function as for the soft mallet part. PITCH will have a greater effect from 12 to 5 o´clock. Changes from 7 to 12 o´clock are rather subtle, but are set on purpose to add fine nuances with LEVEL and BOOST there. OUT VOL changes the overall loudness of both drums. GATE accepts any gate or trigger signal to activate the generators. A signal at only at GATE will trigger both mallets. If a additional trigger is inserted to GATE S, GATE only triggers soft mallet and GATE S triggers hard mallet separately. This way you can have individual drum tracks for both mallets creating very interesting rhythms. A CV signal at MOD CV will override the internal LFO and CV control soft mallet pitch. It doesn‘t exactly track 1V/oct, but you will be able to play some melodies. A trigger, gate or clock signal at MOD RST lets you reset the internal LFO with an external signal. Any CV signal at VARI will slightly alternate the volume or generate additional triggers for the hard mallet circuit (depending on the incoming voltage). This gives you endless ways of creating fine grooves and interesting rhythms. The circuit was designed to easily go into distortion/clipping to encounter the limits. You may be careful using LEVEL and BOOST controls. Boba Fat definitely needs some fine adjustments in order to find the sweet spots. If you feed the GATE input with a trigger at audio rate you can also use BOBA FAT as a weird sound generator or drone machine. prev Up next

Filter & EQ franz / analog multimode filter with lfo and cp3 mixer / 10 HP ⇣ Experience the ultimate sonic bliss with this filter featuring a smooth, buttery tone that wraps your sound in warmth. The integrated LFO adds rhythmic pulsations, while the CP3 mixer ensures seamless blending of your audio sources. 1/3 key features Analog OTA Filter 4 Filter Outputs: Low Pass, High Pass, Band Pass, Notch Internal LFO with two Waveforms: Triangle & Square LFO Reset,LED indicating LFO rate, LFO normalized to Filter ircuit Apply two LFO waveforms at the same time Attenuator for each LFO Wave or external CV 3-Channel Transistor based Mixer MIX out to use the Filter as a single Mixer Block Volume control for each Mixer Channel Wrong Polarity Protection specs & downloads width: 10 HP depth: 38 mm power: 83 mA @ +12V / 72 mA @ -12V documentation videos description / manual The filter is based on the CA3080 chip and offers four different outputs: Low Pass High Pass Band Pass Notch Tweak the dedicated knobs to finely tune the CUTOFF frequency and RESONANCE according to your preferences. This versatile module not only features a filter circuit but also houses a resettable LFO, offering both TRIANGLE and SQUARE waveforms. The LFO is internally linked to the Filter CUTOFF, modifiable using the CV1/TRI and SQU/CV2 knobs. These waveforms can be simultaneously utilized and reset via an external trigger. The automatic normalization of each LFO waveform disengages upon connecting an external CV source to the CV1 or CV2 input jacks. Adjust the LFO Rate using the designated potentiometer, with its speed indicated by a dual-colored LED. For waveform layering, a transistor-based 3-channel mixer is conveniently situated at the module's base. The mixer's sum directly feeds into the filter and is also routed to the MIX output jack. Precisely control input volumes per channel (VOL1-3) and collectively adjust them along with the filter INPUT potentiometer. prev Up next
- Hapha
Modulation & Random hapha / compact locked random voltage / 3 HP ⇣ HAPHA is a valuable tool for enhancing the organic and enjoyable qualities of your patches. This module generates a synchronized random voltage, tied to an external clock signal, and offers the option to stabilize this voltage into a fixed sequence. It's particularly useful for controlling filters and other sound-shaping parameters in your modular system. 1/3 key features Random Gate and CV Clock Sync Lock CV and Gate to a Sequence External CV Input Skiff friendly Wrong polarity protection specs & downloads width: 4 HP depth: 30 mm power: 25 mA @ +12V / 18 mA @ -12V documentation videos description / manual The idea was to generate random sequences by turning a knob. When you turn the LCK knob, a voltage between roughly +9V and -9V is passed to a shift register with an R2R digital-to-analogue converter, which stores the voltages from the pot with each clock signal. Depending on how the control is turned (range and speed), different voltages are sampled, resulting in a different CV and gate sequence. The SER input allows the use of external voltages which are passed to the shift register (mixed with the voltages from the potentiometer). The switch enables or disables the external voltage from the SER input. To use it, simply connect a clock signal to the CLK input. HAPHA will then produce a random GATE signal at the upper output socket and a random CV signal at the lower output socket. You can create and lock a new sequence of voltages and gates by adjusting the LCK knob, and an LED indicator will show when a voltage change occurs. For additional control, if you move the SER switch to the right, you can patch an external voltage (audio or CV) into the serial input SER which will directly influence the random voltages at the outputs. With an external voltage patched, you can still change the sequence by turing the LCK pot. prev Up next
